Have you noticed why I always have French Baker in the house? Well, it sounds "sosyal" (c'est vrai?), but in reality it's not. It's in fact a Filipino owned company and has been in existence for twenty years. Just recently, my husband and I chanced upon a feature story in ANC (Pipol?) and we were surprised to know that French Baker is not a franchise from another country.
But that is not the original reason why I keep on coming back to French Baker.
When I was a young professional working in Makati (naks! nakapag Makati din ako uy!), ito lang ang alam kong puntahang bakery. Jokeeeeee!
Seriously, French Baker reminds me of my happy, carefree and struggling years in the corporate world. I remember after a long day in the office, whether we screwed up or were commended, our hide out was always in French Baker in cash & carry. Muffins lang solved na. There were times when we would sneaked out during office hours just to buy something there. Well, probably it's not really their breads or muffins why we all enjoyed going to French Baker, perhaps it was the joy of being together and being away from our bosses and from the demands of our work.
Another reason why my heart belongs to French Baker is that it brings back warm memories of my Makati days with a good friend, Annie. Life was simple then. Work from Monday to Friday, laundry and tulog during Saturdays, market/ grocery on Sundays. And of course, French Baker. :).
When I was still working in Batangas, I hate Sunday evenings because it would mean being away from my family from Monday to Friday. So usually, on a Sunday afternoon my hubby and I would go to French Baker in Nuvali, had quiet time reading the papers, ordered pasta and bread and brewed coffee. After that, I would be ok.
Probably my age 'no? But I really have the tendency to be sentimental sometimes. :)
